Father's Feelings Matter!
Our Father’s Feelings project was designed to highlight the importance of the father-child bond in our society through the raw experiences and feelings of fathers themselves.
The Father’s Feelings© project is an innovation that originated from our research initiative aimed at validating a novel perinatal paternal depression screening tool. Our Yates tool was created to promote and increase parental equity for fathers, recognizing their important role in their child’s development, community well-being, and the prevention of adverse childhood and community experiences.
The Institute aims to highlight fathers’ strengths and joys, which are often overlooked in our society due to the stigma faced by dads. Through initiatives like Father’s Feelings, we strive to bring these positive aspects to the forefront of our community engagement by providing dads with the resources, support, and celebration they need and deserve.
Why is Father's Feelings Needed?
Father’s Feelings© provides fathers with a clinical screening for paternal depression, brief coaching and intervention, and referrals to clinical and various social and community services during the perinatal phase. This project aims to recognize and address mental health challenges faced by men, encourage paternal engagement and attachment with their child(ren), and raise awareness while enhancing access to resources relevant and tailored for fathers and men.
Father’s Feelings© is dedicated to actively listening and learning from fathers’ valuable insights to improve our programs. Fathers’ feedback also helps us enhance and inform other child and family services and advocate for increased paternal equity at various levels, including individual, programmatic, and policy levels.
The Yate's Paternal Depression Screening Tool
Guidestone’s Yates Paternal Depression Screening Tool was designed to emphasize the importance of dads’ mental health in the overall well-being and vitality of families and communities. At the Institute, we place a high value and celebrate the role of fathers in parenting. This is why we work to ensure they are receiving the necessary attention, support, and assistance from various professionals in our society.
