We Take Action
Our motivation is centered around improving the lives of all individuals and families in Ohio and beyond. This is why we take action. We recognize that many minoritized families encounter significant obstacles to accessing the resources and services they require to thrive. As a result, we are committed to advocating for the implementation of equitable bipartisan policies that promote justice. By working collaboratively with policymakers, community organizations, and other stakeholders, we believe we can generate positive change that will benefit families and communities for generations to come. Improving access to quality behavioral health services is at the heart of what we do as OhioGuidestone’s center of excellence.
Improving Access to Quality Behavioral Health Services
One of our key action priorities is improving access to quality behavioral health services. We understand that mental health and substance use treatment are vital services for individuals and families dealing with an array of challenges, such as depression, anxiety, addiction, toxic stress and trauma. That is why the Institute is committed to advocating for bipartisan policies that guarantee access to quality care, increase funding for research, and promote evidence-based practices.
This includes policies that address some of the most pressing issues facing our society today related to behavioral health and substance use disorders, access, and quality, preventing and mitigating the impact of trauma, toxic stress and childhood adversity, and improving the community conditions in which families live, work & play. We are dedicated to tackling the effects of trauma and toxic stress on individuals and families. We understand that many people have experienced significant traumas, including abuse, neglect, and violence.
Through our advocacy for policies that promote trauma-informed and culturally responsive care, we aim to provide necessary support for families and individuals to heal and recover. Part of our action-based work is centered around working closely with community organizations to ensure that individuals and families have access to the resources they need to achieve family thriving and vitality.
Position Papers
One of the ways we demonstrate our commitment to action is by publishing our position papers. At our core we aim to disseminate knowledge to further the reach and impact of evidence-informed and based practices for optimal health outcomes, and advocacy. Through publishing, the Institute seeks to contribute to evidence-informed care for children, youth, and communities worldwide. Improving access to quality behavioral health services starts with increasing accessibility to behavioral health and scientific knowledge. Our work is driven by a profound dedication to social justice and equity. We believe that by working together, we can create a more just and equitable society where all families and communities can thrive across Ohio and across the country.
